Heat Cramps

Painful muscle spasms that happen when your body gets too hot during physical or strenuous activity

Symptoms

Treatment

  • Heavy sweating during intense exercise

  • Painful tightening or squeezing of muscles

  • Stop physical activity and move to a cool place

  • Drink water or sports drinks with electrolytes

  • Wait for cramps to go away before you do any more physical activity

  • Get medical help if:

    • 1) cramps last longer than 1 hour,

    • 2) you’re on a low-sodium diet,

    • 3) you have heart problems
